What Happens When I Get My Teeth Cleaned?
Most of our patients come in for simple, routine cleanings. Here’s what happens when we clean your teeth.
1. Quick Examination
Every cleaning begins with a quick look at the patient’s teeth to see what we see. Specifically, we’re looking for plaque deposits that have evaded the toothbrush and built up on enamel. Once formed, these hardened plaque deposits, known as tartar, can only be cleaned by a professional dental clinic with the right tools.
2. Attack the Plaque
The main goal of a dental cleaning is singular: To make sure your teeth stay healthy. And to do that, we’ve got to make sure your mouth is plaque-free. The bulk of a standard teeth cleaning treatment consists mainly of going after the tartar that we mentioned above.
3. Professional-Grade Brushing & Flossing
After we’ve wiped out the plaque from your teeth, your hygienist brushes them one-by-one with a powerful, electric brush and follows up with flossing. Just like home, only our toothbrush is wielded by a professional who can really get after those hard-to-reach places.
We’re almost there. By this point, your teeth have been cleaned, and now we’re on the home stretch. A thorough rinse for any remaining debris is the last step before we lock in the cleanliness.
6. Fluoride Treatment
This is the final step and meant to seal the deal on your cleaning by providing months of protection against cavities.
White Smiles and Dentistry That Keeps Patients Out of the Dark
For each of our examinations, our patients are on board with what’s happening every step of the way. We take the time to explain our findings and make sure you know what we know.
The dentist office doesn’t have to be scary, and in our experience, that part of it is usually because the dentist don’t always explain things correctly. Our team takes a different approach to treatment. After any procedure and any diagnosis, we provide an A-Z explanation of what we can do to make your teeth better, the timeframe, the cost – and what to expect afterward.
